The series explores the relationship between painting and photography to investigate the mechanisms of visual perception. The frames are part of the work, turning their decorative quality in a functional element for the activation of the parts.
‘University neighbours’ takes place in a particular university setting where I lived during spring time in 2009. I was fascinated by the architecture and also by young people from all over the world, who were enjoying one of the most relevant experiences in their lives.
“A” is an understanding process of the the form in order to firstly delimit it and then to subdue it by exhaustion until it´s emptied. It is an continuos harassment to the volume until it is reduced to a stain.
By definition a vortex it’s a swirling mass typified by natural forces such as the whirlpool, tornado, or cyclone. This essential dynamism involves a rotary motion that derives from or includes a spiral whirling. A Maelstrom is a colossal natural phenomenon composed of irregularities in currents, flows and tides that are capable of generating powerful whirlpools that move forth constantly and rapidly. They are permanent oscillations between creation and destruction.

No one ever told Darío Martínez what he can or cannot do. For him, there are no rules or commands to follow. There are just some basic thrusts that force him, in an unpremeditated way, to “do” things. You can find the means that facilitate his purpose and the acts that push him to the purpose itself. Without being the same ones, they are paths that coincide in the hidden quality of the chopped off heads and the flaming mouths.
Tired of the current economic and social situation being measured and told using parameters such as external debt, risk premium and other macroeconomic indicators, we decided to portray different people to create a story made of images and words to narrate 2013. This project came up from the need to record the image of current society for two main reasons: to understand and not to forget.
Identity is generated from memory, which is made of memories. A memory is a personal narrative resulting from an experience. There are many methods to preserve them from oblivion. Probably, photography (since its invention) is the most widely used one for this purpose.
