Since Petrarca until today, the artistic experience of the landscape has the mark of the subjectivity. For its existence as a genre implies the presence of an observer able to consciously experience a fragment of nature as a bifocal phenomenon: as an empirical territory and as a fragment of the soul. The connection between both parts is essential to carry out this process. Therefore, for the existence of the landscape is necessary an emotional interaction between an observer and a space that it’s observed.
As the investigator who looks for evidences of the past existence of water on the surface of the moon, “My father’s wrinkles” proposes a journey to the origins of the autobiographical memory. The inability of the human being to remember past episodes of our lives previous to the development of spoken language leads me to conduct a study of the lunar landscape and his cartography. A map is a symbolic representation of the reality but due to its graphic and two-dimensional character is closely related with the imagination. It is a code like the letters of the alphabet that represents real things but its interpretation it is mainly related with the subjectivity of the observer.
“A map symbolizes a desire to find things”.
I use this proposition to create this work as a reflection about the early death of my father and my inability to find images of him in my memory. This is a kind of journey to the remote distances of the memory. Everything is focused from temporal perspective but also from a geographical level. I try to create a detailed study of a past whose existence can only be confirmed from a scientific and dogmatic perspective of the reality. If we are not able to see something or somebody at least we can create our own image of it.
