Unweight

“Unweight. Brief essays on eternity” reflects on the human tendency to reject the limitations of Being. To do so, I photograph blocks of stone marked by attempts at overcoming them.

These signs certify efforts to abstract being itself. Blocks of rock that frame wills unresigned to their material condition. Perfect illusions that only lasted a moment. What happens and what stays.

In this project, I explore the relationship between two concepts that already appeared in my supermen series. The will for power and the suspension.

Physical perception of mass and its relationship with the various forces that act on it may perhaps be the most obvious of all the universal ontological qualities associated with specific beings. The capacity to generate an illusion of the abstraction of one’s own weight by means of personal determination could be evidence of the confrontation between the real and the ideal being: man limited by his perishable material nature and surrounded by perfect universal ideas that are constantly put to test.

As if in a ritual to escape from the curse of Sisyphus, the condemned man attacks the problem on the rock and upon reaching the top of the block before beginning with the next, he is able to free himself for one brief instant from the heavy physical load.
