Stand-by: “A pause or waiting time between two phases or moments”
This work shows, through photographic images, the look worn by certain ski resorts during the out of season time period.
These places are designed for a specific use at a specific time of the year. They wear a disturbing, desolate and absurd look if we stare at them once their activity ceases or before it is started.
On a particular day of the year ski resorts are switched on and after only a few months they are switched off again. It is during this out of season time that all gearings and mechanisms shaping the resort, left behind in the majority of cases, seem to be just awaiting opening day.
They are waiting places. (text by Ignacio Evangelista, 2005)
